Matchday 1: RESULTS

There were no major upsets on matchday 1:

Dynamo Kiev 3-1 Rubin Kazan

Inter Milan 0-0 Barcelona
Liverpool 1-0 Debrecen
Lyon 1-0 Fiorentina
Olympiakos 1-0 AZ
Sevilla 2-0 Unirea Urziceni
Standard Liege 2-3 Arsenal
Atletico Madrid 0-0 Apoel Nicosia
Besiktas 0-1 Man Utd
Chelsea 1-0 FC Porto
FC Zurich 2-5 Real Madrid
Juventus 1-1 Bordeaux
Maccabi Haifa 0-3 Bayern Munich
Marseille 1-2 AC Milan
Wolfsburg 3-1 CSKA Moscow

I felt Liverpool could've won by a bigger margin, but its the 3 points that matter, and we got them.  Also there were one or two penalty appeals that were'nt given..otherwise the team looked good. Yossi has been playing amazing, he played a part in the only goal of the match.

I was expecting the Inter-Barca tie to be a tight one. Barcelona really dominated the match and had many chances to score. Inter will breathe a sigh of relief as none of the Barca attempts materialized. Guardiola won't be happy with this result, I'm sure he would've wanted to start his defence of the title with a win...especially with all the chances they had.

On tuesday Madrid played well enough (they put in 5 goals!). But I'm still not convinced with their back line, they need to strengthen their defense. When Alonso came off due to injury, gaping holes could also be seen in their midfield. They have some class defenders and and excellent goalkeeper in Casillas, but yet something seems to be missing in that backline. On another note, the Ronaldo-Kaka-Raul strike force seems to be working well.
